Quién era Che?
The project required was to write a Cuban recipe in Spanish. I decided to make a Cuban chocolate opera cake with expresso frosting. It was so delicious. For the recipe, I needed the commands to tell you what to do to follow the recipe. I learned more about Cuba then what I had known before. Because Cuba has just recently been removed from the terrorist watch list, Susy wanted us to learn more about Cuba, so we learned about Che and Fidel, and how they created the revolution in Cuba. On the spoken part, I did okay. I didn’t have my card completely memorized, and so I struggled a bit with the questions that Susy asked me, but I am happy with my final grade.
For this project, we were writing a story about our childhood using the preterite and the imperfect tenses. It had to be a story that happened to us because Susy wanted us to write with the tenses to get a feeling of what it's like to use them in real life.
In Spanish, it's important to have the past tense because there might have been an interesting story that happened in the past and you want to tell someone. Or in case you are in the hospital and are trying to explain the the doctor that you ate something bad. Writing this story, we needed to talk about the past and having the preterite and imperfect really helped telling the story. |
Las RamblasFor this project, we needed to research a famous Spanish person and then portray them at the exhibition. We started this project about a month and a half ago, starting on just getting basic information on their lives. I decided to study Maria Felix, a famous Spanish actress in the forties and fifties. She was a pretty bad-ass.
We needed to write most of the PowerPoint in the past tense, and that was slightly difficult for me to wrap my brain around. I struggled with it for a little while until it finally clicked. Another thing that I learned was how to do some old lady makeup for my presentation. The exhibition was slightly stressful because I also had the SLC's afterwards and a family dinner. All in all, the project and exhibition was a pretty fun project.

My Por Que' Statement
I want to learn English because I want to travel to the beach, live and eat the food in Latin America. Then also for my school so I can be intelligent. When I travel to the Spanish-speaking country, I don’t want to be a gringo. They will then accept me. The food in most countries are delicious, but I can’t read the ingredients, so if I can read spansh then I can make the food and understand it.
