Seminar Reflection: 9/22/15 |
My Place on the Political Map |
Seminar reflections are always hard to write, just with not being able to remember who said what or what you even talked about. But the first seminar I really liked my group because I din't feel intimidated by everyone. I remember we mainly talked about our preferences on federalism, why we chose what we did and then who should have have control over what. An example that we thought of was for the river and who should clean it; the community, the state or the federal government. There are pros and cons for each of the governments. I remember either Tia or Sean said something along the lines of the federal government should fund it but we, as a community, should be able to control how we clean the river spill. All in all, this was a very productive seminar and I feel better about learning about politics.

Above this paragraph is a Political Map to determine where someone stands on different political debates. When I marked my own political map, I decided that I am closer to Anti-Federalism than any other place just because I believe that States have the rights to decided what will be legal and illegal in their own area. If the government decides that something is illegal or legal, for example gay marriage and the selling of marijuana. It is now federally legal for gay marriage everywhere but only in a few states is selling weed legal. I also placed my self up high on the line of giving power to the people. This means that the public gets a say in what they want to happen in their state/country. The people who are in the Anti-Federalist group are old, white men but that's not the only group that is anti-federalist.

The Decision Making Decisions 9-11-15 |
Reflection of the Constitution 9-15-15 |
On Friday morning, Marcus split us up into four different groups and had us come to a decision about how we wanted to make decisions in the class for the whole year. My group and I decided that the best option was through a plurality vote, which is pretty much whichever option gets the most votes, even if the rest of the group is against the decision. We then, as a class, tried to discuss what we would chose. It took us the rest of the class period trying to figure out how we wanted to to decide on anything in the class. It was an endless circle. The time that it took to finally decide on the process was way too long. We also went around in a circle to gauge what everyone's ideas were for each decision. By the third circle around, nobody had the energy to really care about the same questions just being phrased differently. With only ten minutes to spare, we came to the decision that Marcus gets all the power over the projects, the classroom, really everything. But if we have a problem, we can either give feedback or advocate for ourselves to change the problem. Overall, having the choice to decide how the classroom is run is a great idea but it needed to be planned/organized batter than just handing us the reins.

I haven't taken history since 8th grade, so I don't really remember everything that went on with the writing of the constitution. So reading about the constitution is really making me us more brain power trying to decipher the Old English and what the men were trying to create for us now. But with the discussions that have been happening in the Capital recently about Gun Control and other things, is cause everyone to create their own rendition from each of the amendments. One is the Right to Bear Arms, which some people argue that you can have many guns that you want without question, but other people believe that you should be able to have guns but need to go through many requirements to obtain a gun.

The Impression of PowerThe only thing that I really got from this discussion was that the best power to have was the 'Manipulation of Preferences, Norms and Expectation' because you can gain followers just by saying what people want to hear. Hitler was very proficient at this ability and that is how he first started getting a following. He wanted to make Germany great again and so did the citizen, so he knew what to say and when to say it for his following to grow.

What is Power: 9-8-15Power is when you have control or say over one person to whole countries. You have the power to control anyone and anything that you want too.

Possible Issues for Our Class:
1. Women Rights
There are still really sexists people in this countries
2. Mental Health in Teenagers and Helping them
Many teenagers have mental health problems, but they aren't being addressed or even noticed. We need to get people used to talking about illnesses in the brain as well as just physical health.
3. River Health

Political PhilosophyMy political philosophy is that everyone deserves equality. By this, I mean that anyone can have the same chances and rights as any other person. No matter what the gender, sexuality, income, skin color, etc. they can do anything. I also I am pretty pro-choice for life. We all have control over ourselves and no one can change what we do.

Who do I look up too?One person who I look up too is Amy Schumer. I look up to her because she goes and talks about things that us girls would never actually say/talk about in public. She isn't afraid to be honest about how life really is for girls. She is funny but there is truth hidden beneath the jokes. She hits on subjects like periods, one-night stands, masturbation, and just the daily struggles of being female without making guys feel like a lesser person. People laugh, but there is more understanding in the life of a girl.

So it's pretty much that Market is trading goods and/or services for personal interest. Polis is more more the personal interest for each individual that mixes with the population interests.
